Who we are

Building on more than 160 years
Suzuhiro launched production of kamaboko (fish cake) in 1865 in Odawara, Kanagawa, Japan. At that time, the main business of Suzuhiro was selling seafood. The fourth owner of Suzuhiro, Gon-emon Murataya, started making and selling kamaboko as a side business. Between the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century Suzuhiro’s kamaboko business increased significantly. The sixth owner of Suzuhiro expanded the market beyond Odawara to Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

Founder of the First Imitation Crab Factory in the USA
In the 1980s, Suzuhiro and an American partner operated the first crab sticks (made from surimi) factory in the USA. Crab sticks became the main product through which many people around the world first discovered kamaboko. We believe our Fish Cake Mix will present yet another gateway for many people to discover the deliciousness of surimi (fish cake paste).

From Ocean to Table
In 2007, we opened Kamaboko Village in our hometown of Odawara in order to give our customers and tourists a deeper understanding and appreciation of the history of kamaboko, and the care, craftsmanship, and technology that is required to make our premium products. In addition to selling kamaboko, the Kamaboko Village offers a variety of unique experiences, including a kamaboko tasting bar, factory tours, and hands-on kamaboko-making workshops.

Commitment to Values
We at Suzuhiro remain committed to producing the most delicious and healthy kamaboko in the world, while also being good stewards of the environment. We understand the importance of ocean and fish conservation. We consider sustainability an important part of who we are at Suzuhiro.

Sustainability, Conservation, and Innovation
We appreciate and value our long-term relationships with our loyal customers as we seek to help new ones discover kamaboko. We continue to dedicate ourselves to producing excellent and delicious food. Our philosophy and values lead us to actively lead or support several projects to help create a better world for future generations, including activities involving clean energy development, tackling malnutrition, and ecological conservation.
